Project Objective
To build and maintain a
wireless network infrastructure for The Ohio State University Columbus campus
that supports growth over 5 years to a minimum
of 2,300 access points and 45,000 concurrent user sessions. In addition, TELR (Technology Enhanced
Learning & Research), through collaboration with the colleges, will deliver
a best practices wireless instructional technologies website and sponsor a
series of professional development opportunities for IT staff and faculty.

wireless network infrastructure

Develop assessment plans for academic unit
wireless learning environment pilots

Develop instructional strategies training plans

Estimate
630 access points required for Phase
II; breakdown:
400 project funded access points for primary student gathering areas
230 access points available for purchase by colleges and departments

Estimate: 9,600 concurrent user sessions

Result: Greater
number of wireless hot spot locations around

III and beyond

Expansion of wireless network based on colleges & support units
purchasing access points through the project;
also includes expansion of the infrastructure and maintenance of solution
· Disseminate and update assessment plans for college wireless instructional pilots and implementation
· Deliver instructional strategies training to instructors and provide professional development opportunities for IT support staff

colleges & departments

Result:
increased number of access points, coverage (mobility), concurrent user base
and RF management functionality

Project Governance Structure
Project Governance Structure
was unveiled at the Wireless Summit on March 10, 2005.
By 4/1/05, representatives
have been identified thru Deans, VP’s and Administrators to participate on the
various project governance structure committees.
Committees began holding
regular meetings May 2005.
