OSUGUEST

Since guests and visitors are unable to utilize osuwireless without a valid name.#w, a separate SSID, osuguest, has been implemented throughout campus. This network, unlike osuwireless, requires no setup for encryption. Note that this guest network is unencrypted. Please take any and all necessary steps to secure your device when connecting to 'osuguest', and avoid performing any tasks that are considered confidential.

Access Permissions:
Services on the osuguest SSID have been limited to the following:

        * HTTP and HTTPS web browsing
        * VPN
        * Secure Shell (SSH)
        * Secure Mail (i.e., Secure POP3, Secure IMAP, Secure SMTP)
        * Instant Messaging (AIM, Novell, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ)

All other services, such as POP/IMAP and SMTP, are not permitted. To access email, users will need to utilize their email provider's webmail.

Using osuguest:
Once associated to osuguest, users must first open a web browser and attempt to navigate to a website. This attempt will redirect them to the "OSUGuest - Wireless Network Captive Portal". At this page, users should read the acceptable use policy and enter in their wireless guest credentials. If they have not been given or have forgotten your wireless guest credentials, they should speak with the department, college, or event leader sponsoring your visit.

Requesting Account Provisioning Rights:
The wireless implementation team currently administrates access to provisioning guest wireless accounts. At least one of the following requirements must be met in order to become a guest wireless account provisioner:

  • The prospective account provisioner is the dean and/or head of college
  • The prospective account provisioner is the lead departmental network administrator
  • The email request comes from either the dean and/or head of college, and/or the lead departmental network administrator, providing written consent for the prospective account provisioner
In addition to meeting one of the above requirements, the prospective account provisioner must have an active Kerberos (lastname.#) account. To become an account provisioner, please follow the procedure below:
  1. Meet one of the above three requirements for becoming an account provisioner
  2. Submit your request in email to the wireless implementation team at osuwireless@osu.edu
  3. Include in the email:
    • Your OSU Internet Username, lastname.# (NOTE: If you have one, do NOT provide your magnus-style username)
    • The maximum duration your guests will need access (options are one day, three days, one week, one month, and three months)
Upon receipt of request, it will be reviewed and responded to within 1-2 business days.
