OSU Wireless Network Project

FAQ

Question: Why is a wireless network needed on the OSU Columbus campus?

In general, Universities around the world are adopting wireless technology based on demand from tech-savvy students, mobility, competitive advantage and to expand the traditional concepts of the learning environment.

Specifically, “the use of wireless technology on The Ohio State University campuses is steadily increasing – albeit on an ad hoc basis. Wireless technology is seen as a means of fulfilling the promise of mobile computing with anywhere and anytime access.

From an educational perspective, wireless access provides new collaborative opportunities in the resident learning environment and transforms any space into a classroom or computer lab, as well as providing faculty and students with the means of exploring and implementing new and innovative teaching and learning strategies.

With its potential to drive new models of teaching, learning, research, and outreach, wireless technology is becoming a strategic imperative in support of Ohio State’s Academic Plan.”
